Our Story:

It began with a knock on my door...
I had a neighbor, who knew I knitted, and she had a request; could I spin some linen thread for her reenactment costume. When I said 'No', a sigh, a few curse words, and 'Let's fix that.'

A week later, I was introduced to a retired Master weaver and spinner. Luckily she liked me and spent almost a year teaching me how to spin (for those who don't pick it up easily, keep at it).

I had a wheel and a desire to spin everything! The house started filling up with a stash as I started to learn how to dye as well. Before long, my desire to spin everything and my space didn't jive.

A business was born!

Flannel Cakes Fiber is my second venture in the fiber arts world. Founded in 2016, I strive to create memorable and luscious colorways on a variety of fiber bases. If I haven't spun it myself, I don't sell it. Period.

Why Flannel Cakes? When my daughter was little, she and I loved Saturday mornings when Daddy made breakfast and his pancakes are the best! So, pancakes, of course was her idea. I did some research and discovered that in parts of Appalachia, pancakes were called flannel cakes. Being Appalachian, this spoke to my ancestral roots, learning to crochet from my grandmother, which was the beginning of my fiber journey.

I hope you love each creation and please send me photos of what you make. I love seeing how my colorways are used.
